Auralization – What is it?

What if we could hear the sound isolation at the design stage? And we can!

The process is called auralization and consists of simulating the sound field created by a source in a space in order to create a binaural sensation of presence in a position of digitally modelled space. This process aims to create a realistic auditory impression of the space’s acoustic characteristics.

Thus, we can define 3 major advantages of auralization in the context of sound isolation:

  • A better understanding on the part of the customer regarding the final acoustic result because the definition of acoustic criteria is often too technical for the customer to realise what to expect of the acoustic behaviour of the building;
  • It allows the customer to hear the sound that is transmitted from the outside to the inside or between internal spaces;
  • It allows a definition of criteria in conjunction with an informed client, making it possible to overcome obstacles in the project phase, sometimes solving cost constraints.

As the auralization is a huge added value for the customer, InAcoustics has successfully adopted and carried out this process in previous projects, being a service increasingly requested by demanding customers.
